On the page “Politics is Politcs” I mentioned how I have surrounded myself with great people that have allowed me to see the world in a new light. Also, I have never laughed so much in my entire life. Now’s my chance to introduce you to these characters!
The first is Michael. I met him one day in freshman orientation. The day they did the Dating Game. Basically, I did something out of my element–I walked up to him and said, “You’re a Political Science major right?” And he responded, “Yea, but I want to transfer to Legal Communications.” And we have been friends ever since. Michael is a real character from Los Angeles, California and “Philly” (There really is a place called Philly). He will call you a “Bitch” in a second. And not even think twice about it. I think that part of him is rubbing off a little bit on me because I find myself saying “Bitch” more often. This may be a little bit of a sensitive subject, but Michael does have some “methods to his madness” that may suggest an interest in the male species. But, trust me, he will make it clear that, “Bitches always be thinkin’ I’m gay! I’m not–far from it!” I guess I can say that his “Southern California-ness” comes out sometimes. But that goes right back to the “Bitches” thing. The thing that interests me about Michael is that he is the type that will tell you exactly how it is, without hesitation! For example, he told me a story about how he was in Founder’s Library looking for a book for some class he has…. The point is he had a slight confrontation with the lady behind the information desk, beacause she didn’t know anything about the books that were in the library. She kept directing Michael to this other lady that was clearly occupied with another student. Michael said, “Then why are you here? Why are you here if you don’t know anything about what I need help with?” Let’s just say he was politely escorted out of the building. But I wouldn’t want him to change it for the world. That makes Michael, Michael.
Next, we have Gerron. Gerron is a character too, no literally a character. He will snap into Bon Qui Qui in a second and not give a shit about who is in the room. “Don’t interrupt…rude!” Don’t know who Bon Qui Qui is? Look her up on youtube. Anyway, Gerron is one of the coolest people on HU campus. I met Gerron one day when I was in Michael’s room. Michael, “had said,” he was going across the hall, so I followed and I met DJ Gerron J from the South Side of Chicago. I just knew that somehow we would be friends. I could feel it! (too far??…yea, just a little) Anyway, I just had a hunch. Gerron is the type of person that will tell you exctly how it is…after he tells you “how it is” in 500 words. For example, Gerron is madly in love (no he really just likes her) with this girl on campus. I’m not going to give her name. But Gerron likes her and the other night they were texting back and forth. Michael and I were like, “Just tell her how you feel.” And of course he eventually did, but lets just say about 20 texts and a few facebook IM’s she still hadn’t got the message. But it’s cool because dudes who can sit there and tell a girl how they feel and what’s on their mind, I believe, are more apt to get the girl than one of those dudes who just sit there and text stuff about sex. Because before they know it, the girl is mad and telling her friends, “I will cut him!” So, Gerron, do yo thing shawty! She’ll finally realize there are very few dudes like you. If she was my type… watch out, becasue you would have competition. But since she’s not, do yo think shawty!
These two people represent what Howard University is all about. It’s about meeting new people and letting everyday be an adventure. And please do trust me when I say everyday with Michael and Gerron is a brand new adventure. From busting butch girl asses to cursing out old ladies to getting “fucked up”, we are BTE (Better Than Everyone). Just know that there is no need for us to “enunciate that shit!”
